| Friends, Our God wink this month comes from our friend Tom Atema with Heart for Lebanon. The question is: can you REALLY change a child in one year? I was recently at our Heart for Lebanon South H.O.P.E (Helping Overcome Poverty with Education) Center year-end graduation for the afternoon students: 75 boys and girls ages 7-13. Here’s the deal, these children have NEVER been to school. In fact, on the first day of school, last September, they did not even know how to climb the stairs. They did not know how to read or write in Arabic never mind English, with zero math skills and no knowledge of Jesus Christ they started their academic journey. But today, they know how read and write Arabic and English and they know Jesus Christ. Oh YES – you can change a life in one year. Roughly 1/3 would be involved in human trafficking and child labor. 1/3 would be recruited for radical groups, and 1/3 would be sitting around in their poverty for the rest of their lives.
