Refreshing to the Soul!

Neither rain, nor sleet nor snow …

Here in Uganda you don’t need to worry about the sleet or snow … but the rain?!!  Rainy season has started here and when it rains, it pours!  It wakes you up in the middle of the night with the rain pounding on the metal roofs!

It rained so hard the first day that the workshop started 2.5 hours late!  It left me scrambling trying to figure out how to do the workshop, fit in lunch and be done by 3pm!   It was a scramble but, as usual, God showed up in a big way.   People from varying types of communities came together to learn how to reach and disciple the children in the villages, refugee camps and from the inner city.

The feedback was extremely positive!  Everyone left feeling inspired and invigorated to go back to their ministries and teach the Bible to their children.  One person shared with me:  This is so amazing and an incredible way to lead our children! I can’t wait till Sunday and try it out.

To close out our evening, the place we are on has a firepit and every last Friday of the month there is a group that leads a night of worship around a firepit.  So refreshing to the soul!  Come back tomorrow for more!

My Heart Creates my Course, My LORD Created my next Steps

Too Blessed to be Stressed and Too Anointed to be Disappointed

Asmaa’s Story

0

Asmaa’s presence in the classroom was barely noticeable. She seemed adrift, her gaze often wandering, her attention elusive. Lessons washed over her, leaving little trace. She rarely participated, her voice a silent echo in the bustling classroom. Teachers struggled to connect, to draw her into the fold, to ignite a spark of engagement.

Then came the Bible session, a moment of unexpected transformation. The teacher introduced a game, a simple yet engaging activity involving dice, colors, and question cards. The room buzzed with anticipation, the children eager to participate.

The dice rolled, the cards were drawn, and a question emerged, a profound inquiry that hushed the room: “How do we get to heaven?”

The teacher, her voice gentle and encouraging, used an analogy. “If we want to travel to Turkey, we take a plane. If we want to go to Beirut, we use a car. If we need to cross the ocean, we need a boat. So, what is the way to heaven?”

“By dying,” a student offered, a straightforward, albeit incomplete, answer.

The teacher gently corrected them. “Not everyone who dies goes to heaven.”

“On the day of resurrection?” another child suggested.

The teacher nodded, then posed a deeper question. “And where will you go? Heaven or hell?”

A heavy silence settled over the room. Then, a small hand, almost tentative, rose. It was Asmaa.

Her voice, usually barely audible, was clear and resolute. “By faith. By believing in God. By praying.”

The teacher’s breath caught in her throat. This was Asmaa? The student who seemed so detached, so unresponsive?

In that instant, the true impact of the H.O.P.E. Educational Program became vividly apparent. Asmaa had been absorbing the lessons, not merely with her ears, but with her very soul. The seeds of faith, planted with patience and love, had taken root in the rich soil of her heart.

The H.O.P.E. center was more than just a place of learning; it was a place of transformation. It was about reaching those who seemed unreachable, connecting with those who seemed disconnected. It was about revealing to children their inherent worth, their intrinsic value.

Asmaa’s answer was not a mere recitation; it was a revelation, a testament to a heart awakening, a soul finding its voice. It was proof that even in the quietest, most seemingly withdrawn hearts, faith could flourish.

It was a powerful demonstration of the gospel’s ability to transform, whispered in love, planted with care, and nurtured with unwavering faith. It was a reminder that change occurs, even when it is least anticipated, even in the hearts that appear closed. Because when love speaks, even the softest whispers resound with profound meaning.

Elie’s Story

0

The air in the Hope Educational Center hummed with a quiet, persistent energy, a warmth that settled deep in the students’ souls, like seeds planted in fertile ground. It wasn’t just about textbooks and tests; it was about cultivating something far more profound—a lasting hope, a quiet, unwavering hope that whispered of a purpose beyond the classroom walls.

Elie, a boy with eyes that sparkled like polished obsidian and a smile that could chase away shadows, was a testament to this transformation. He arrived a whirlwind of youthful energy, a bundle of raw potential waiting to be shaped. It was in the hushed reverence of chapel sessions and the gentle cadence of Bible stories, shared by teachers with hearts as open as their lesson plans, that something shifted within him.

Those stories, those verses, weren’t just words; they were living parables that took root in Elie’s heart. He devoured them, his spirit drinking deeply from the well of faith. He wasn’t just a student anymore; he was a vessel, filling with the light of understanding.

His energy, once a restless force, now flowed with purpose. He greeted each day with a radiant smile, a beacon of positivity that drew others to him. He sang hymns with a fervor that made the old melodies sound new, his voice a joyful offering. He spoke up in class, not to boast, but to share the insights that bubbled within him, his words laced with a newfound wisdom. English, the language of stories, became his sanctuary, fueling his dream of becoming an artist.

His teachers witnessed a metamorphosis. His handwriting, once a chaotic scrawl, became neat and deliberate, a reflection of the order taking shape in his mind. His academic progress soared, but it was the change in his character that truly amazed them. He wasn’t just learning; he was becoming. His relationships deepened, filled with empathy and a genuine desire to help.

During a recent visit, Elie’s voice, usually a lively chatter, took on a reverent tone as he spoke of chapel time. “It’s where we praise the Lord,” he said, his eyes shining. “I learned about love, support, and giving without expecting anything back. I understand now that everyone is equal, that we’re all made in God’s image.”

His sister, her eyes brimming with a quiet pride, spoke of the profound change she saw in him. “Thank you for taking care of my brother,” she said, her voice thick with emotion. “You’ve changed his life.” She shared a story that painted a vivid picture of Elie’s transformation: when his siblings argued, he’d gently chant, “Be kind,” his voice a soothing balm, a living testament to the verse that had captured his heart.

“Be kind to one another.” It wasn’t just a phrase; it was a mantra, a guiding principle that permeated his every action. He wasn’t just repeating words; he was embodying them.

The Hope Educational Center had done more than educate Elie; it had ignited a spark within him, a flame of faith that burned brightly, illuminating his path and casting its warmth upon those around him. It had shown him that true education wasn’t just about filling his head with knowledge, but about filling his heart with love, kindness, and a profound sense of purpose. And in Elie, they had found a living, breathing testament to the enduring power of hope.

May I always be helping others seeing themselves what they may not, as this is what GOD sees in them.

When I look at the world I may be stressed, if I look Within sometimes I will be depressed, but if and when I look and Focus On Christ I will have hope and rest in his peace and in his presence.

18 Years Ago: The Surgery That Changed Toan’s Life

0
Toan was born into a poor farming family in a rural village. His parents worked tirelessly in the fields from dawn to dusk, but their income was barely enough to cover daily necessities. Life was already challenging, but it became even more difficult when they discovered that Toan had congenital heart disease.
The mother’s sorrowful, dazed expression upon learning her child had congenital heart disease.
As a child, Toan often felt weak and struggled to keep up with his friends. Simple activities like running or playing outside would leave him breathless. His parents longed to see him healthy, but the cost of heart surgery was far beyond their reach. They could only watch helplessly as their son’s condition worsened, praying for a miracle.
Toan with a radiant smile after being saved by heart surgery
That miracle came when Giving It Back To Kids (GIBTK) and kindhearted sponsors stepped in. Toan received the life-saving heart surgery. The operation was a success, and for the first time in his life, he could breathe easily and live without fear.
The present Toan now has a family and a fulfilling life.
Years passed, and Toan grew into a strong, healthy young man. With a heart full of gratitude, he worked hard to build a better future for himself and his family. Today, 18 years after his surgery, Toan is not only healthy but also happily married. ?His family is now preparing to welcome their first child, a beautiful new chapter in his life.
