My name is Kiet. I was born into a struggling family, living in a crowded home with my grandparents, uncles, and aunts because we couldn’t afford our own. My father, a fisherman, earned just 1 to 3 USD a day, sometimes nothing at all, depending on the sea. With unpredictable weather and scarce fish, life was difficult, while my mother stayed home, doing her best to care for me and my sister with what little we had.

But our biggest challenge came when I was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, Ventricular Septal Defect. I was still very young, but I could feel the fear around me. My parents were constantly worried. The cost of the surgery I needed was far beyond what my family could ever afford. I remember my mother telling me that my father once said, “Every day I go to the sea and pray, not just for fish, but for a miracle that could save my son.”
