There are no words that can fully describe this moment, one filled with deep gratitude and emotion. Being part of the Giving It Back To Kids (GIBTK) family for nearly two years has been a journey I will always treasure. Here, I’ve truly felt unconditional love and sincere care from everyone around me.
I stood nearby, listening to the student’s emotional sharing.
GIBTK is more than just a workplace, it’s a Home. A place where I can be myself, follow my passion, and make a positive impact on children’s lives. As Ms. Nu, an English teacher at Dorothea’s Project Legacy 5, I’m not just teaching language, I’m a companion and guide, helping students gain skills, confidence, and hope for the future.
I still can’t believe I’m an English teacher at such a wonderful place
I still remember how lost I felt after graduating in 2023, unsure of what to do or how to make a difference. Then one day, I came across a job posting from GIBTK. The name immediately stood out. After researching, I felt a deep connection. I took a chance and applied. When I was accepted, I burst into tears—knowing this marked the beginning of my journey to plant seeds of love.
This is a place I can truly say is full of love and kindness
Every day in class brings me joy, seeing the children smile, hearing their dreams and worries, and watching them grow. They don’t just learn English or school subjects, they learn how to love, share, and overcome life’s challenges. And from them, I’ve learned so much about strength and resilience.
Being a guide for the next generation is an incredible honor to me
The children take part in diverse activities STEM, leadership, and life skills that help them prepare for the future. One special part of the program is their chance to meet international guests and sponsors who genuinely care. At first, many were shy, afraid to speak English out of fear of mistakes or being laughed at, carrying a belief that they weren’t “good enough.”
GIBTK welcomes generous sponsors, and I want our students to confidently connect with them
That’s why I didn’t just teach vocabulary or grammar, I taught with all my heart. Through every smile, nod, and patient moment, I wanted them to feel seen, heard, and supported. My words carried more than just meaning; they carried belief: “You can do it,” I would say. “It’s okay – try again.” “I believe you’ll speak better than you did yesterday.”
Not just regular subjects, but also laughter and meaningful impact
I practiced patiently sentence by sentence, like watering little seeds. Some cried when they couldn’t remember a simple greeting. But months later, those same children became the first to greet guests with confidence and bright smiles. My heart swelled not just from their progress, but from the pride and belief I saw in their eyes.
I always strive to ignite passion in the students here
To me, teaching English is more than a job, it’s a journey of love and awakening courage. Every word they speak, even if hesitant, is a sweet note from the heart. Sometimes, in quiet moments, I sit with them and listen to their stories. When I ask, “What do you love most about being here?” many smile and say, “Seeing you, and getting the chance to grow.” That simple answer touches me deeply.
Coming from a difficult childhood myself, I know how priceless a safe place to learn can be. I feel truly blessed to be part of this mission. I believe we won’t leave a single child behind and I will keep walking this journey with them, and with GIBTK my second home.
